Xavier Musketeers’ Head Coach Chris Mack and Family Unveil Inaugural “Coach Mack’s Corner” at Pleasant Hill Academy
Thursday, April 13, 2017
CINCINNATI (March 2,
2016) – Xavier Musketeers’ Head Basketball Coach Chris Mack was at Pleasant
Hill Academy Tuesday morning to unveil Coach
Mack’s Corner, a space for kids to learn and read. This reading space, the
first major program of the Mack Family
Foundation, features a Mack Family Foundation mural, bookshelves stocked
with 600 age-appropriate books provided by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and
furniture for the kids to sit down with their new favorite book.
Upon arrival at the school, the Mack family was greeted to a
chorus of cheers from students eager to greet the NCAA star. After the warm
welcome, Mack was off to the school’s library to unveil his Corner and speak
with students. Before the unveiling, the kids were treated to a Q+A between Mack
and Xavier Hall of Famer, Joe Sunderman.
“Education is the key that unlocks countless opportunities,”
said Mack to the students.
“If you can learn to love reading and learning, you will be
successful. Every success story starts with a willingness to learn and
challenge yourself. When you come here and pick out a book, I want you think
about how you’re creating new opportunities for yourself; and I want you to
have fun while you’re doing it.”
After the Q+A, Chris and Christi Mack, Pleasant Hill Academy
Principal Ms. Shauna McDowell, and Chris Hedrick of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
performed a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially unveiling the first-ever Coach Mack’s Corner.
Once the ribbon was cut, Chris and his wife, Christi, sat
down to read a book to the kids. Naturally, they chose the basketball-themed, Curious
George Joins the Team.
