October 29, 2021, Louisville, KY - Just before UofL’s first game day of the 2021-22 season – an exhibition match against Kentucky State -- men’s head basketball coach Chris Mack hosted his own first “Game Day” event of 2021-22 season for local students. The second in a series of four "Game Days" was a week later, prior to the West Georgia exhibition game. Partnering again with several regional agencies and launched in 2019 just prior to Covid-19 lockdowns, the program is relatively new.

An extension of a considerable existing commitment to inner-city schools by the Mack Family Foundation, the "Game Day" Program is a direct response to the  financial constraints faced by many families in the Louisville Metro area.  Harsh economic conditions have made the opportunity for K-6 students to attend a live basketball game at the KFC Yum! Center with their parent or guardian financially out of reach for many, so Coach Mack developed a program to provide an entertaining and educational experience for both child and parent or guardian.  "Diverse experiences help young kids grow both academically and personally, so any chance I have to help a student flourish, I'm going to pursue it, period.  The Mack Family Foundation was launched to provide long-term enrichment to disadvantaged elementary students in our community, and this is just one part of that Mission."  Game Day Program students receive in-person time with Coach Mack, tickets to a game, an autographed basketball, and an afternoon of exciting, fun, live sports entertainment.

Counting down to the night’s big game together, Coach Mack, ten elementary students and their chaperones shared a couple of hours of fun, education and encouragement to thrive -- both academically and in life.   The meet-and-greet with Mack at the KFC Yum! Center was followed by a casual Q&A session and tour of the Cards’ practice gym facilities.  A formal “photo opp” session, filled with laughs and posing was also coordinated by the Mack Foundation, along with autographed basketballs for each student, and tickets to the night’s game for themselves and their chaperone.
